Rise Up Rooftop Yoga with Brigitte Bourdeau
Serene NYC At The James Hotel
27 Grand Street
New York, NY 10013

Thu, 8:00 AM To 9:00 AM

It’s not every day you’re invited to a sunrise rooftop yoga poolside party (sans men)! Serene Social, a source for conscious content, connections, and empowerment for women, offers NYC’s most tranquil Thursday morning wake-up call with breathtaking views of the Freedom Tower and radiant yoga instructor, Brigitte Bourdeau.

The atmosphere of a sky-high yoga class at the Soho Luxury James Hotel is exactly what you would imagine: peaceful, soulful, and intimate. A pool and teak deck created the ultimate calming experience for a few minutes of opening meditation on our mats. With my eyes softly gazing inward I was reminded to bring my awareness to the breath, but I kept finding the awareness to crack one eye open for another glimpse of the amazing skyline in front of me.

Brigitte’s joyful energy was magnetic and illuminated our small group of yogis moving through a few rounds of Surya Namaskar A as we saluted the sun directly above us. With such a small class I was able to reap the benefits of more frequent hands-on adjustments that helped me open my heart and breathe even deeper into each pose.

Heart openers were the theme of practice as we mindfully transitioned into a variation of deep backbends and twists like Urdhva Dhanurasana and Marichyasana C. Opening myself up to a new day was the perfect intention to allow positive energy come through me.

The combination of asana, philosophy, and humor made the class effortlessly flow for 60 minutes and by the time we started cooling down it felt like I had just started my journey of movement. As I found my way to Savasana, I allowed the outside breeze carry me into stillness. There seemed to be a collective feeling of gratitude as we all shared a few breaths of silence just above one of Manhattan’s most bustling neighborhoods.

After class I had the opportunity to network with other like-minded women over a complimentary breakfast courtesy of Chia Pod. There were ladies of all different ages and backgrounds, but each one shared the same passion for living a healthy lifestyle. We laughed, we hugged and made new friends all before the workday started. The only thing that seemed to be missing from this friendly equation were bottomless mimosasanas.

Drop-in classes are $25 (registration required via the website.)Complimentary mats provided. Class is rain or shine (held inside at The James Hotel) through September before taking it indoors with a cold weather yoga series.
